EWGA Port St. Lucie-Treasure Coast Chapter Member Pat Ayres Captures EWGA Championship Title

It started earlier this spring and summer with over 2,425 members competing at their respective EWGA Chapter Championships. Fast forward through 15 semi-final competitions held during the summer from which 205 women earned the right to compete Sept. 25-26 in the Championship Finals presented by Callaway Golf at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL over a 2-day 36 hole competition. Was this an easy journey? NO! Were there excited competitors? First time competitors? Anxious competitors? Confident competitors? A fabulous core of volunteers to make it all happen? YES, to all of the above.

Now in its 14th year, this year’s competition began with 120 local Chapter Championships. Consider these stats from the Championship Finals: the age range of competitors was 22 to 78. 102 EWGA Chapters were represented from 37 states plus our north of the border members from Canada. There were 5 competitive stroke play flights and a scramble division of 15 teams.

Julie Shore from the Raleigh Triangle, NC Chapter gets a hole-in-one

Julie Shore of Raleigh, NC made a hole-in-one at the Wanamaker 11th hole, on her first day of competition. And, it was only her second hole of the day to play!

Each player brought a special story to the EWGA Championship experience. Some traveled from Portland, OR, Bellevue, WA, Richmond, VA, Houston, TX, Baton Rouge, LA, Boise, ID, Albany, NY and even Port St. Lucie, FL. It’s the stories that make the Championship and for that matter, the EWGA so special. We are truly an organization that enriches women’s lives through the game of golf. Every competitor present in Port St. Lucie was an example of just that.

I’d like to congratulate Pat Ayres, the 2009 EWGA Champion on her two-day round of 144. She was living a dream to have her family all there for her when she came off the 18th green after completing her final round to share in her accomplishments. This was Pat’s second overall EWGA Championship victory. When she won the title the first time, in 2006, it was in Scottsdale, AZ and her family was not present. So for her to share this with her family, it was indeed a dream come true. So you see, it’s so much more than a competition.

On the first day of competition, CJ Ensign was wearing a black and orange outfit in tribute to another EWGA member battling cancer. Tweets and email messages were being sent to her throughout the week to keep her in touch with what was happening. EWGA’s Port St. Lucie member Judy Holder led the coordination of over 80 EWGA members and friends of the EWGA who volunteered their time to assist during the Championship.

Many came back on the second day of competition when they didn’t have to, just to be a part of the experience. This is just another example of the power and support EWGA members give to one another.

We invite you to visit ewga.com to hear the stories about what the EWGA means to so many.

Vince Lombardi once said, “You are all champions in your own way. That doesn’t mean you have to be number 1 to be the best. Just do your best. If you aren’t first, then make those people ahead of you break records by pushing them with your personal best. Consider for a moment what we achieve from athletics – the sheer fun of competing, the building of a healthy and alert mind and body – stamina, courage, perseverance, dedication, commitment, selflessness and most importantly, the will to excel.”

Angie Peters, Marilyn Martin, Sador Black and Jan Compton from Tri Cities NE TN

This message certainly rang true for the four women from the Tri-Cities of Northeast Tennessee Chapter who won the Scramble Team Division. For the last four years, they had placed in the Championship Scramble Division but they had a goal to win the overall title. Congratulations to Angie Peters, Marilyn Martin, Sador Black and Jan Compton. You did it!

And speaking of champions, the EWGA Championship Committee comprised of Jean Gamerl, Donna Shaw, Jeanne Biggerstaff, Karla Harding, Sue Stager, Mary Ann Cronin, Janet Young – and EWGA Staff members Stephanie Jennings, Josie Artymovich and Annette Medalie. Thank you all for a job well done.

Congratulations to all of the EWGA Championship Players!

Hunter and Debbie Vacation at the Bahama’s Atlantis

I gave Debbie a birthday weekend get a way in one of the most beautiful places Bahama’s Atlantis. We had a great time and enjoyed the waterfall just out side our room, the crystal clear ocean and golfing off the 6th hole. The golf course at Ocean Bay Golf Club where Michael Jordan holds his charity tournament events once a year was stunning.

We also went to the Underwater aquarium tunnel at Atlantis in the Bahamas and saw up close the  swordfish and barracuda swimming right before our eyes.

I took video of part of our trip to share…

“Are Golf Balls the Most Expensive Golf Accessories of All?”

In your golf living it cost me much more money. For example, the cost of golf course. But most of time, we can’t hole-in-one balls. It will make some problem. It makes you feel hurt. Usually the golf ball is lost its way and then you can’t see it again. Golf ball was decade every time, because they frequently are lost in shrubs around or send to traps or lakes. The thing that can unnerve you the most is that you must buy many more golf balls. One pack is consisting of 12 balls usually, and the price of the pack is about $25. This is a tremendous cost. Now there are some ideas to deal with this situation. It will save much of money and it is always good, especially nowadays.

When you begin to play golf you will have maybe situations when you can find golf balls lost by other players in the same area. If you come to the golf course early in the morning you will be able to find golf balls almost everywhere. Especially pay attention and look to every shrub even you think it is too small to be shelter for golf ball. If there are water splashes, look at them also. Some balls can be there. Maybe you know the story that some players have found ten golf balls at the water pool. Skilled golfer may feel amazed with this kind of action. But you don’t have to mind of this. Good idea is to take a bag. In that way you could store them into your bag. And the important thing to know is that the only thing that you have to do is to wash off the mud from the golf ball. After that balls will look like the new one. It is much easier to send new ball in way you want. Used one sometimes has the lane not as you wanted. And therefore it can fall to some place where you can’t find it.

There is also possibility to buy some used golf balls. You can find them in some sport equipment stores. Sometime they are very cheap. Sometime the price is up to 50% off. They usually look like they have been cleaning. But golf ball are not in watching brands or colors. In the beginning it is usual that you can’t notice which balls are new one and which are old and used. Some people can’t make the difference for a long time. You can note the difference in ball’s spin and new balls are stronger and firm. If you are not completely sure about the difference between new and used balls you can buy one new and one used and compare them. You will see they have similar but not the same color. Although the used one is washed it can never have such brightness as the new one. Try to play with both. You can feel the difference when you bat them.

Although there methods that can’t save all money, if you follow there rules you can make your golf enjoying more acceptable for your wallet. You can count and make the sum of this and conclude how much money you can save in ways that are mentioned above. At the end, the cost can be only several dollars per one week. Experiences that are mentioned above really can help you to enjoy in golf playing with your friends. Just imagine how happy you may be if you first find the golf ball beside other golfer. It can be good stimulus for the beginning of the play.

All about Clone Golf Clubs and the Custom Fitting Process

I always fancied a set of made to measure golf clubs but was turned off by the jargon that accompanies anything related to golf. I am the first to admit my skills wont ever threaten Tiger.

My plans are far simpler than anything like that. At this point I would like to keep more shots on the fairway than in the rough.

I wont admit to being the most athletic person in the world but I must have at least an average amount of hand-eye coordination. Why then do I find it so frustratingly tough to hit a little ball a little bit straight?

Why when I aim South does the ball keep on flying West? I really want to get better at golf. Easiest way must be to only play golf on the Playstation but I admit I’m under the spell of the game.

I did see some improvement when a colleague at work suggested I should start with examining my clubs. Probably sound advice as 20 year old cast-off clubs wont help me much. I searched around a bit for some simple advice on golf clubs. Eventually settled on a new set of Custom Golf Clubs.

Clubs delivered and to my astonishment I now keep some shots on the fairways. Golf is enjoyable. Not in the adrenaline packed way of more extreme pastimes, but watching grown men and women driving themselves insane is oddly satisfying. It puts things into perspective. Sometimes all you need is a couple of good ones down the middle.

Job over and Tiger can keep cashing the checks.

“Tour Tested Titleist Golf Bags For Any Golf Game”

Every golfer knows it’s a golden rule to always have a durable bag at their side. Every athlete needs a resilient bag for every game. It is a must to have the right bag for the right playing condition and etc.
Titleist Golf equipment has been flying off the shelves for several years. They are dubbed as the trendsetters in style and in quality. Their line included innovative golf balls, resilient clubs and robust bags. What made them more special is their worldwide sponsor Tours which proves their quality and efficiency.
It’s all in the bag

Though most manufacturers boast of their chic designs and functionality, their fabrics fail to deliver the expected. They easily tore and break. Is it the player’s negligence or simply a wrong choice of material?
Titleist Golf Bags are made with different fabrics for each bag type. Polypropylene, polyester and textured vinyl are the basic materials for each bag type.
The collections are classified into two: cart and carry bags. From a professional on tour to a casual play with friends, there’s a specific Titleist Golf Bag for you.
S82 and S83 staff bags are the latest and favored amongst the cart bags. It is practically the professionals’ choice. The S83 is a smaller version of the 2009 staff bags which amazingly sized at 9.5″. This version has been tested in worldwide tours.
They are collapsible as well as lightweight. The Titleist Golf carry bags surprisingly hold any amount of load from few clubs to a full set. Latest line of these has integrated a full-length apparel pocket and foam-padded, mesh-covered hip pad.
A descendant of the carry bags, Titleist stand bags have the full features of its predecessor only enhanced. These are available in different types such as: premium, lightweight, ultra lightweight, and StaDry.

Picking the best golf irons

We love to get our hands on the latest things to hit the shops don’t we? And nowhere is that more true than in golf. The new clubs get launched every year with a load of pomp and fuss and a huge list of technology they have added which most of the time has a hugely complicated name for something really simple, but is it really that much better? I’ll admit that on occasion then there is some big change which really stands out and makes a huge improvement, but most of the time it is just a small percentage better, a few feet more in maximum distance, slightly more MOI for forgiveness, nothing worth the shiny new $1000 price tag! When you are considering the best golf irons for you then you need to think about price as well, and the one good thing about all the new clubs that come out each year is that the old versions which are just as good plummet in price!

“What is the Best GPS For Golf?”

Looking for the best GPS for golf? Are you not sure what to buy, or are you confused by everything that’s currently for sale? Welcome to the club! (No pun intended!) Finding the best GPS for golf is 1) very confusing and 2) depends a lot of how much you want to pay and exactly what you want it to do. The differences in golf GPS’s have to do with what kinds of graphics you want and what features you’re looking for.
Some golfers are just interested in using their golf GPS as a range finder. If that’s what you want in the best GPS for golf, then you’re in luck because every golf GPS on the market can do just that, easily. Other golfers are interested in their golf GPS being an electronic score card and keeping track of things like length of shots and statistically analyzing their past games. Finally, a lot of golfers wouldn’t consider the best GPS for golf unless it had really high-end graphics, you know bird’s eye views of the fairways, pictures of the green up ahead that automatically adjusts with your angle of approach.
You can get all of this and more right now for about $400. At this price point, some of the best GPS for golf systems are the Callaway uPro, the Sonocaddie V300, and the Garmin Approach G5. As far as graphics, these all do about the same thing, although each has its strengths and weaknesses. The Callaway uPro has incredible graphics, but you have to download each course you play. That’s not that expensive, however. The Garmin Approach G5 comes pre-loaded with courses, and it has excellent graphics, too, although maybe not as spectacular as the Callaway uPro. Garmin is known for a really quality product, though. So, if quality of workmanship is part of your definition of the best GPS for golf, then maybe you should strongly consider the Garmin Approach.
On the other end of the price continuum, you’re looking at $150 to get the best GPS for golf. There certainly are systems that are slightly less expensive, but the quality less expensive models (if that makes any sense) generally run around $150. Good examples of some of the best GPS for golf systems are the iGolf Neo and the Sky Caddie Sg2.5. There are certainly other models, which you might consider in the running for the best GPS for golf at the lower end of the price range, like the IZZO Swami 1500, but the iGolf Neo outclasses most of these.
