Which Golf Grips Golfers Should Consider?
However, that is not the entire story. There are more reasons for you to consider using them and a few reasons you should not use them. Let’s take a closer look.
One of the axioms for gripping is — don’t put a “death grip” on the club with your hands. A tight grip with the hands causes tension in both the hands and forearms. Tension impedes a nice relaxed swing with discount golf clubs and can prevent you from making good contact with the ball. We don’t need any of that.
One reason people grip a club too tightly is that their grip size is too small for their hands. A grip that is too small makes a golfer feel like they could lose control of the club if they don’t grip it tighter. If that is you, you might be a candidate to consider larger grips, including jumbos.
There’s more reasons to consider jumbos. As golfers age, many can get some arthritis in their hands or just the fingers. If so, the hands and fingers have trouble closing on average or standard size grips. It can be painful.
Larger grips allow good contact with the club, but the hands/fingers don’t have to close down and can be slightly more open during the swing. If your hands aren’t hurting, a nice relaxed swing is more likely.
One more consideration. Going to jumbo grips is not without consequences. In general, the size of your grip can affect your golf shots (discount golf) and how you strike the ball.
In sports that require participants to hold an object in the hands, (tennis, golf, hockey, baseball, etc.) it is well known that grip size matters. A smaller grip size tends to promote good hand and wrist action. To the contrary, larger sizes tend to inhibit wrist action.
In golf, if you inhibit your hand and wrist action during the swing, you could find any number of problems to overcome. One problem is that the club is not released very well at the ball. The result may be a weak shot or an open clubface that can produce a slice. Not good!
So, before you run out and get your clubs re-gripped with jumbos, think about what you are doing. Jumbo grips are a natural for golfers with large hands, of course.
