The 2010 Technology in TaylorMade Super Tri R9 Driver

For 2010, the prominent golf equipment manufacturer TaylorMade presented another groundbreaking driver that is claimed to exceed the standards for clubs. From amateurs to professionals and icons, all enthusiasts are excited to get a grip at this new technology.

Said to be released earlier this year together with the updated TaylorMade Burner, the Super Tri R9 Driver is part of their latest collection. It has integrated the same material as the current R9 460 covered with a black finish and is about 3 weight ports total.

What’s in a TaylorMade Super Tri R9 Driver?

SuperTri’s all-black head is somehow similar with one of TaylorMade’s most popular clubs, the r7 SuperQuad.

However, this driver has a 420cc head, three movable weights and a system that allowed golfers to unscrew the clubhead and re-attach it to the shaft in one of eight different positions. This feature made SuperTri more forgiving compared to the original R9.

The center of gravity in this equipment is moved lower 2 millimeters back in the head. This enables a higher launch with slightly more spin for greater carry distance. In fact, SuperTri has a slightly lower center of gravity than the R9 460’s. The face is also the deepest amongst all the TaylorMade collection.

SuperTri also has eight face-angle settings that is combined with the three adjustable weights (two 1-gram weights and one 16-gram weight), which allows up to 75 yards of left-or-right adjustability. As the golfers adjust the face to be more closed, effective loft is added, which increases the launch angle. Adjusting the face to be more open decreases effective loft for a lower trajectory.

The R9 SuperTri has four lofts (8.5°, 9.5°, 10.5°, 11.5°) and with a Fujikura Motore 60-gram shaft in one of five flexes (L, M, R, S, X). The R9 SuperTri TP also has the same head with a choice of 10 premium shafts, including the Aldila Voodoo, Mitsubishi Fubuki and Matrix Ozik.
