The Open could prove a handicap for Scots businesses

By Michael MacLeod

SCOTS firms could be about to find themselves hit by a round of golf related sickies brought on by this year’s Open golf championships.

Not because golf fans are bunk-ering off work to watch the likes of Tiger Woods and co fighting it out at the Old Course in St Andrew’s.

But because usually desk bound amateurs will be inspired to pick up their clubs and do themselves an injury.

Four out of five hobby golfers are expected to pick up some kind of niggle or serious injury in the course of their playing days, according to research by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

Now experts are warning The Open makes that risk even higher as workers take to the greens without any proper preparation.

Golf Tips – Tiger Woods Face On Swing Examples

Learn From Tiger Woods’ Swing

Golf Swing has been studied every now and then and it is quite common to see golfers everywhere trying to apply the same techniques to better their game. So if you wish to get that perfect swing going for you right when you want it, it will be an excellent idea to study Tiger Woods swing and duplicate it as well as you can.

Tiger Woods makes efficient and frequent use of the full back swing to maximize his golf swing power, both to get the length off the tee as well as while driving in the fairways with the irons. To execute such efficient golf swing, one must pay heed to the exercises that Tiger Woods and others professional golf players do regularly to obtain good flexibility.

Now follows these steps:
– Do right arm or left arm straight extensions. Extend the left arm if you play with right or extend the right if you play with the left.
– Put this extended hand on top of the perpendicular sitting golf club on the surface. Join the top of the club now with your other hand too.
– Now bend down your upper body a little, just enough to put pressure on the club, such as callaway ft i-brid irons. You must be able to feel your shoulders stretching while you do this.
– Remain in this posture for around 10 to 15 seconds.
– Now similarly do the follow through stretches with the opposite sides.
– Hips don’t lie! It is always observed that while you take the swing, the golf ball will inevitably fly in the direction in which your hips point after the follow through. Hence, it is very important to properly rotate your hips while taking the swing and be aware of their position.
– The golf swing speed can be increased considerably by turning your torso swiftly. You must not concentrate on your wrists, arms and shoulder alone while trying to optimize your speed. Your body must work in coordination as well.

Remember, make sure that your body is right above the ball while taking the golf swing. And your body must be still, firm and not shaking so as to obtain a strong center of gravity for that perfect golf swing like Tiger Woods! You must get hold of some of his videos from some website, like some discount golf clubs online website, and study them in slow motion to emulate Tiger Woods golf swing in a copybook manner.

Some Valuable Tips for Golf Beginner

There is nothing that the beginning golfer can benefit from more. The single best choice out of all gifts for the golf beginner is golf lessons. Even the best of golfers could use a tip or two at times to improve their game. Tiger Woods did not learn golf overnight. Tiger, probably the best golfer in the world, still takes lessons. Certified Golf Professionals are the ideal trainers, fully qualified to teach you how to play the game.

The Secret Tip Every Beginner Golfer Should Know What makes golf so complex when compared to other sports? There are a few reasons, however exactitude is probably the number one factor when comparing the game of golf to other activities. You have much less room for error compared to sports like baseball, for example. Baseball uses a much bigger ball and you have a comparatively larger bat to swing with. You have several chances of hitting the ball to make a play.

With golf, you must hit the ball perfect each and every time you are up for your shot. You have one swing with your taylormade r9 fairway wood and that’s it. The room for error is so minuscule due to the tiny size of the ball and the clubface.

Take It Slow

For those of you that are new to golf and have not quite grasped what we are trying to explain here about the difficulty levels of the sport, you should take time to follow a few basic tips that every seasoned golfer adhered to when they first started playing. What is the most important tip for beginners? Take the game slow and keep things simple. The obstacles of golf for the beginner player are mostly mental. With the intensity of concentration, focus, and pressure from an audience, one of the best tips that you can appreciate is to simply take it slow.

Learn the game at whatever pace suits you. Many newbie golfers tend to go all out, buy a brand-new set of discount golf clubs, hit the ball at a driving range for a few days, and then immediately run out and start playing on a prestigious 18-hole golf course. I understand that you are probably excited and want to jump right in headfirst, but compare the game to swimming.

Finally, wish these tips can help you a lot.

Mickelson’s Third Jacket

Ask Phil Mickelson – he was a runner-up so many times in majors his critics were saying he didn’t have the stomach for the fight.

There’s a saying in golf (taylormade r9 fairway wood): You have to learn to lose before you can win.

Now he has won four majors and yesterday claimed his third green jacket, proving, surely, if you knock on the door hard enough and consistently enough good things will happen.

It’s a lesson Lee Westwood is finding frustratingly familiar after he was pipped by Mickelson at Augusta, having finish third in the 2008 US Open(Wholesale golf)and third in the 2009 Open at Turnberry.

Though not at his Sunday best after a wayward opening drive which cost him a bogey, Westwood kept playing partner Mickelson and the chasing pack at bay until the 12th where Mickelson birdied and the 13th when Westwood’s tee shot found the pine straw among the trees and he had to lay-up to the par-5.

Mickelson was also wayward but saw his opportunity to play a high tariff shot through the trees to find the green. They both emerged with birdies but it gave Mickelson the momentum and he added a further birdie at 15 to lead by three.

With Tiger Woods and K J Choi dropping back after threatening to make a big impression and Anthony Kim leaving his course record 67 charge just too late, Westwood offered fleeting hope with a birdie at 17 to get within two of Mickelson.

But when the left-hander found the green with his approach to the 18th, the title was settled and for good measure he holed his 15-foot putt to re-established his three stroke winning margin.

Like many great players before him who lived in the shadow of others before they made their breakthrough, Westwood will continue to challenge for the major titles and may not have to wait long before his dream is realised.

Sex and Golf and Advertising (1)

I was out for breakfast on a Sunday, reading the sports page, which mentioned that a kid named Tiger was doing well at the Masters, and the server commented “How about that Tiger Woods?” I was literally at a loss for words. He is very good at golf, but his excellence has always been clinical—easy not to watch.

His recent troubles seemed painful on a domestic level, but hardly worthy of the attention they commanded. I am even tired of people saying they are tired of Tiger Woods.

I’ve also never had much interest in Nike as a brand. I avoid buying their shoes because of their association with sweatshop labor, but buy other shoes produced, no doubt, under similar circumstances. It’s the lazy hypocritical morality of someone who avoids shopping at Wal-Mart, and goes to Target instead.

But this commercial. Tiger’s return to golf, and the simultaneous debut of this commercial, seems to put a period to this crisis for Tiger. As Tiger’s dead father asks, “have you learned anything”? Maybe so, but it’s nothing nice. There are (at least) three levels that the ad works on: literal, pop cultural, and personal.

This act of contrition raises the question of what, exactly, Tiger owes Nike for their loyalty. He lost his other sponsors when he was caught in behavior remarkably similar to that which gained endorsement opportunities for Joe Namath. It does not seem to be a question of changing mores – much more recently, Tom Brady and Matthew Leinart have been caught in extramarital sexual relations with little damage to their public image. Tiger’s philandering, instead, was pathologized as “sex addiction.” I am not sure why. His race is a necessary part of the explanation, but I am not confident that it is sufficient.

In a broader popular cultural arena, it’s hard to imagine an advertisement that will do more to perpetuate Tiger’s humiliation through endless parody. It is Nike’s gift to the meme economy. Between when I write this and whenever someone reads this, the number of parodies will have exploded further, so I won’t bother quantifying. The static image and the off-camera voice puts a parody within the reach of anyone who owns a computer. The people who do Nike’s commercials are well aware of the media landscape the ad inhabits, and it’s impossible to imagine that they are not counting on these parodies to proliferate their message.

Tiger Woods’s Sportsmanship (I)

This is where spsring begins, on golf’s finest stage, with the game and its players on display at the year’s first major championship. and this year there will be an additional subplot, centering on the prodigality of one of the four-time champions, Tiger Woods, and his attempt to rebuild a fallen picture and restore his golf game as the standard against which all others are measured.

The quantifying begins now, inside and outside the ropes, and Woods’s behavior will be scrutinized as closely as his scores. Measures of his success and failure this week will hinge in part on whether Woods will keep a quantity of the promises made at the beginning of the week, including one about his widely criticized tendency toward angry, profanity-laced outbursts and thrown clubs over bad shots. Woods promised they would try to “not get as hot when I play.” This is not likely to be an easy promise to keep.

It is not that Woods will be expected to start signing autographs during play, or to chat with fans the way Palmer used to as they looked for an errant drive. No one thinks they will high-five or fist-bump spectators à la Phil Mickelson.

This will be about not erupting in a string of obscenities, as they has on numerous occasions during the past 10 years. It started with the infamous tirade on the 18th tee at Pebble Beach in 2000 during the United States Open, which they finally won by 15 strokes. While completing the fog-delayed second round, Woods hooked his drive in to the Pacific Ocean, and his outburst was captured by a microphone near the tee.

More recent examples include a slammed driver that bounced in to the gallery last November at the Australian Masters, his most recent tournament. They also threw his golf drivers in to a swampy area in front of a tee at the Deutsche Bank Championship last year. Although his behavior had attracted isolated criticism historically in the past, it was brought to the forefront in January when Tom Watson criticized Woods for “his swearing and his club throwing, that should finish.”

But the roots run deep. It was Woods’s sister, Earl, who might have planted in his son the notion that swearing on the work was something that people would must get used to.

“Specifically about swearing, it’s a — I won’t say a cultural thing; it’s a relatives thing. My sister could swear for 30 minutes and seldom repeat himself.”

“You can’t have it both ways with Tiger,” Earl Woods told Golf Digest in 2001. “You can’t have charismatic abilities to execute the marvelous shots and then chastise him when that same passion causes him to overload when they hits a bad shot.

His son does not believe they can rein in one without losing the other, and they said so in what sounded more like a threat than a promise.

Says Nice Things to the Masters

In successive weeks, major tournaments will dominate the golf calendar as the women tee it up in Rancho Mirage, Calif. at the Kraft Nabisco and the men will head to Augusta National for the annual tilt at The Masters.

It will be the 74th staging of the Masters, an invitational that sprung from the minds of the legendary Bobby Jones and his friend and partner Clifford Roberts. Angel Cabrera will defend his crown while Ernie Els arrives on the heels of two straight PGA Tour victories. Perhaps no golfer is hotter than Fred Couples, who has captured three of the four regular-field Champions Tour events he has played to start his rookie campaign.

Couples, who claimed his only major victory at the Masters in 1992, is coming off a win at the Cap Cana Championship in the Dominican Republic. He’s putting well, distance is not an issue and he’s confident.

Els was in the middle of a drought with just one PGA Tour win between 2005-09, but the Big Easy emerged with two quick victories at Doral and Bay Hill in March and is primed to secure his fourth career major and first Masters crown.

Phil Mickelson will be looking for another title, but perhaps the greatest attention will be turned to Tiger Woods who will be making his first appearance of the 2010 season. Woods, who last played and won at the Australian Masters in November,  is a four-time Masters champion with his last victory in the event coming in 2005.

Cabrera prevailed last year in a two-hole playoff against Kenny Perry and Chad Campbell.
